The Grand Egyptian Museum – the World’s Largest Pharaonic Museum

Your first stop is the Grand Egyptian Museum, opened at the foot of the Giza Plateau as the largest archaeological museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization. The GEM houses over 100,000 artifacts covering Egypt’s entire ancient history from the Pre-dynastic Period to the Greco-Roman era — many of them displayed in public for the very first time.

The undisputed highlight is the complete treasure collection of King Tutankhamun — all 5,000+ objects discovered in his tomb in 1922, reunited and presented in state-of-the-art galleries designed to show every piece in its full glory. You’ll also stand before the colossal statue of Ramses II, rising over 11 metres tall in the Grand Atrium, along with royal mummies, golden jewellery, intricately carved sarcophagi, and monumental statues from temples across Egypt.

Lunch Near the Giza Plateau

After the museum, you’ll enjoy a buffet lunch at a comfortable restaurant near the Giza area. This is a welcome pause before the afternoon’s most iconic stop — and a chance to absorb everything you’ve already seen.

The Pyramids of Giza & the Great Sphinx

No trip to Cairo is complete without standing in front of the Pyramids of Giza — the only surviving Wonder of the Ancient Seven Wonders of the World, built approximately 4,500 years ago on the western bank of the Nile. Your guide will take you through all three pyramids of the complex:

• The Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops) — the largest, originally 147 metres tall, built from an estimated 2.3 million limestone blocks. The sole surviving Ancient Wonder.
• The Pyramid of Khafre (Chephren) — the second pyramid, appearing taller due to its elevated position on the plateau and still retaining part of its original smooth limestone casing at the summit.
• The Pyramid of Menkaure (Mykerinus) — the smallest of the three, yet still a breathtaking feat of ancient engineering.

You’ll also visit the Great Sphinx — the iconic limestone guardian with the body of a lion and the head of a pharaoh, carved from a single outcrop of bedrock and believed to date from the reign of King Khafre around 2500 BC. Your Egyptologist will bring it to life with the legends, theories, and archaeological facts that surround it.

The tour includes a stop at the panoramic viewpoint where all three pyramids line up perfectly for the most photographed view in Egypt. Optional entry inside the Great Pyramid is available for an additional fee directly at the site — your guide will advise on the experience (note: the passages are narrow and not recommended for those with claustrophobia).

Shopping Stop & Return Flight

Before heading to Cairo Airport, there’s a short stop at a local area where you can browse for souvenirs and gifts or relax with a cup of traditional Egyptian tea. In the evening, around 8:00–9:00 PM, you board your return flight to Sharm El Sheikh and are transferred directly to your hotel — your Cairo day trip from Sharm El Sheikh complete, with memories that will last a lifetime.

• Visa required: A valid Egyptian entry visa is needed to travel from the Sinai Peninsula to mainland Egypt. You can purchase it at Sharm El Sheikh Airport before departure. Bring your valid passport.
• Cancellation policy: Free cancellation up to 48 hours before departure.
• Children must have their own passport for the domestic flight.
• Early start: Hotel pickup is around 4:00 AM. The early hour is the price of a full day in Cairo — and it’s absolutely worth it.
